Community Resilience & Local Food Precinct

An emerging initiative to create a community-scale place where food, housing, land stewardship and well-being are deliberately integrated.

Our vision

For Albury Wodonga to be recognised internationally as a region with food security throughout the seasons and affordable housing options for diverse resident needs.

Our mission

To implement an agrihood of 25 plus affordable, eco-sustainable homes for 75-125 farmer-residents adjacent to regeneratively managed farming allotments that produce 300% of fresh food requirements for residents with diverse needs by 2027.

Agrihood aspects

What?

A walkable housing neighbourhood with modern eco-friendly design and build adjacent to a 6 hectare parcel of fertile land with access to multiple sources of water for allotment food growing.

Where?

We are exploring several sites across Bungambrawatha-Albury (NSW Australia) that are within metres of food growing plots and 10 minutes ride to the centre of town.

How?

Founders guide the foundations to setup a farmer-led cooperative for rural activiites and a not-for-profit cooperative for the cohousing neighbourhood. Each have membership systems, inclusive governance, social enterprise and circular economy.

Who?

Phase 1 is led by co-founders using whole sytems design and funded by development partners.

Phase 2 invites food growers to co-create permaculture gardens and commerical plots to scale up for families, local & regional customers.

Phase 3 intergrates homes and facilties following world's best cohousing principles for families small and large to buy, rent, rent to buy and buy to rent.

When?

Phase 1 underway from March to September 2026.

Phase 2 is scheduled to begin October 2026 and will continue to evolve in fertility and production indefinately.

Phase 3 is the housing development project that is estimated design in Q2 2027 and build in Q4 2027

Why?

We have faced many societal, ecological and economic problems for several decades.

The present geo-political environment has brought about food insecurity issues that mean we need creative solutions as soon as possible.

The Agrihood is a viable and well positioned option.

The Riverina Agrihood is a proud initiative of the Co-Creating Villages organisation.
